He is also the company's head designer and devised the powerful branding concept 'Tools for Togetherness'. Extremis gained an international reputation as a trendsetter in outdoor furniture in just a few years, and this success story is closely linked to the inspired personality and ideals of its entrepreneur-designer. He considers contemporary design more than simply a matter of trendy and attractive objects; it is all about innovative solutions that can make the world a better place.Since 2007 Dirk Wynants Design Works or (dw)2 has been an independent entity and is open to design assignments from outside Extremis. Since Extremis was launched in 1994, Dirk Wynants has won countless international awards (e.g. the Henry Van de Velde Award, the iF and Red Dot Awards, Good Design, IDEA, DME and so on).The design critic Chris Meplon has been keeping a close eye on the Belgian and international design scene for years. Her purpose in this book is to discover the secrets behind the unique success story of the pioneering Extremis company.
Paperback. Zustand: Neu. Neu Neuware, Importqualität, auf Lager - What began as an one-off project for Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen - designing together pieces of furniture that are both pure and poetic - has turned into quite a succes story. And now there is a book too. With their joint design project Muller Van Severen as its focus, the book is divided into three main sections;Introduction: an introduction to the creative work of photographer Fien Muller and artist Hannes Van Severen, in which not only does the quality of each individual in their own right come across but also their similarities;Process: about the creative process behind the pieces of furniture, including many sketches and photos from their workplace;Objects: many images of their work on display at the Valerie Traan gallery, whose original commission forms the basis for the Muller Van Severen project.Includes texts based on interviews with the designers, the design journalist Chris Meplon and the London curator and critic Max Fraser.Muller Van Severen is a joint design project of the photographer Fien Muller and artist Hannes Van Severen, the result of a commission from the Valerie Traan gallery. The work of photographer Fien Muller and artist Hannes Van Severen lies on the edge between art and design: they favour functional furniture with refined shapes and contours, but at the same time the pieces also have something fragile and frivolous about them.

Hardback, 260x210mm, 160p, 100 colour illustrations, English edition. ISBN 9789058564085. As a son of a cabinet maker, Dirk Wynants (? 1964), was brought up with a nose for good design and a healthy dose of entrepreneurship. He studied interior and furniture design at Sint-Lucas School for Architecture in Ghent (Belgium) and was involved in the distribution of international design brands, until he established Extremis (1994), a label and brand for his own designs. Extremis' outdoor furniture designs quickly grew into an international standard of excellence. Not only the design collection itself has been applauded and awarded many times (with several Henry van de Velde Awards, Interior Innovation Award, (IMM Koln 2005), Red Dot Award 2005, International Excellence Design Award 2007, ao.), the expertise of Extremis in the field of design management, general management and export was praised just as well. In 2007 the creative unit of Extremis continued under the name Dirk Wynants Design Works = (dw)?, to enable the company to take on external design tasks. Dirk Wynants is still managing director and main designer of Extremis, but is also working closely together with other internationally renowned designers. 0 g.
