Her family was deeply embedded in the Austro-Italian aristocratic and military networks of the era. By dedicating these volumes to her, Chiusole framed his artistic tour not merely as a scholarly textbook, but as a refined cultural offering to the high nobility of the Lombard-Venetian and Trentino borderlands. Printed in Vicenza in 1782 by the Turra press, this compelling volume collects two complementary Grand Tour pocket guides: Itinerario delle pitture, sculture ed architetture più rare di molte città d'Italia and Le pitture, sculture ed architetture più rare di Roma. Designed for sophisticated eighteenth-century travelers, these treatises abandon generic geographical descriptions to focus strictly on artistic and historical collections and itineraries. The Itinerario traces a meticulous artistic path from the author's native Trentino region down to Naples, charting significant masterpieces across more than fifty Italian cities, while the following Roman guide provides a concise, structured breakdown of the most celebrated classical and Baroque monuments in the Papal capital. The author, Count Adamo Chiusole (1728?1787), was himself a notable painter, art historian, and prominent intellectual from Rovereto. A member of the elite Accademia degli Agiati and admitted into the prestigious literary Accademia dell'Arcadia under the pastoral pseudonym Vergisio Sipiliano, Chiusole combined his practical understanding of artistic composition with Enlightenment empirical observation to create a highly curated travel companion. First and only edition of an extensive Italian poem on the history and techniques of painting, by Count Adamo Chiusole (1728-1787). A second issue with the date 1769 is mentioned by Morazzoni. Count Ciusole was a rather well-known painter himself and wrote several works on painting and other art historical subjects.After the dedicatory poems to members of the Venetian noble family Correr and the introduction follow the eight books of the Art of painting: Il desegno (on design), Il colorito (on colouring), la prospettiva (on perspective, 4 books, pp. 78-97), l'inventzione (on invention) and le diverse maniere dei pittori (on the different ways or manners of painting). No less than 87 painters are mentioned and discussed, making the poem a kind of who's who of the art of painting, including many Italian artists (including Mantegna, Del Sarto, Cimabue, Giotto, Da Vinci, Rafael, Titian, Tintorretto and Vasari), but also foreign ones (including Dürer, Rubens, Van Dyck, Rembrandt and Callot).In very good condition and wholly untrimmed, with deckles intact, point holes preserved and some bolts unopened, with only a tiny marginal worm hole in the corner of a few leaves.
