In den WarenkorbHardcover. Octavos, three volumes. In Very Good condition. Re-bound in modern full brown cloth with gilt titling to front boards. Spines and boards have a few scattered white scuff marks and minimal shelfwear. Text blocks have speckled edges; light dust soiling to top edges and age-toning throughout; "Wounds" volume has two smal…l dampstains to top edge, which extend slightly into the upper margins of the leaves below; "The Antiseptic Method of Treating Wounds" volume has a small open tear to fore edge of first page and a small dampstain to bottom right corner of text block; all volumes have age-toning, light penciling, and light scuffing to leaves. Shelved in Room A octavo overflow. This custom-bound thematic set documents the growing understanding of antiseptic theory and wound care in the mid-to-late 19th century. These volumes come from a collector who had sections of books removed and bound alone. The first is a section of the July 1867 American Journal of Medical Sciences and features reviews by physicians of various books and articles on the subject. Volumes two and three are articles taken from John Ashhurst's 1882 International Encyclopaedia of Surgery, with the final one being authored by W. Watson Cheyne (1852-1932), a former chief assistant to Joseph Lister and pioneering antiseptic surgeon in his own right. 1415695. Special Collections - Upstairs.
