This work contains the text of the Fables of Loqman (Lokman) in Arabic followed by an Arabic-French dictionary of the words used in these fables. Luqman is thought to have been a pre-Islamic personality, whose name is given to the thirty-first chapter of the Quran. According to Islamic tradition, Luqman was a sage who lived in the eleventh century BC. and came from Abyssinia, Egypt or Palestine. He lived with a powerful king who respected him enormously, who some believe was King David. The Qur'an does not speak of Luqman as a prophet, but merely describes his character traits. Here is a compilation of fables which legend attributes to him. The Fables of Lokman was published by Erpenius and Golius in the 17th century. Marcel made a translation in 1799 and 1803.
