So zum Beispiel über die Bronzetrophäe aus dem Museum der Medici - ein Löwe, dessen Kopf und ein Teil des Rumpfes zu den entsprechenden Körperteilen eines Lammes geworden sind - oder die Inschrift eines Flachreliefs aus Marmor, aufbewahrt bei den Constanzis in Perugia, welches das Anbinden eines alten Mannes durch einen Jüngling zum Zwecke des Schindens darstellt. Hier habe die Entrüstung die sehr einfache Inschrift diktiert: "BEL BESI [?] = Böser Herr, der einen Alten zum Zwecke des Schindens anbindet." Vor allem aber habe er sich der Interpretation der 1882 in Perugia entdeckten großen Inschrift gewidmet und unter Zuhilfenahme der Forschungen von M. Stickel versucht, eine neue Sichtweise auf einige schwierige und bis jetzt noch nicht genau übersetzten Passagen zu werfen: "[] j'ai pu faire préceder l'examen de la grande inscription de Pérouse de l'analyse et de la traduction raisonnée des quatre inscriptions toscanes les plus importantes après celle-là. J'étudiai d'abord avec mon nombreux autitoire (tourjours salle comble) le trophée en bronze du musée des Médicis, un lion dont la tête et une partie du tronc sont devenus ceux d'un agneau [] ensuite l'inscription qui se trouve au haut d'un bas-relief en marbre conservé à Pérouse chez les Constanzis et représentant un jeune homme attachant avec violence un viellard à un tronc d'arbre. C'est l'indignation qui a dicté ces simples paroles BEL BESI [] Maître méchant qui attache un vieillard pour l'écorcher. [] Mais je me suis surtout attaché à l'interprétation de la grande inscription découverte à Pérouse en 1882. Profitant des savantes études de M.
