Softbound. Zustand: Near fine. First Edition. Catalogue of an exhibition held at the Asia House Gallery in New York from Jan, to March 1970. The focus of the exhibition was to illustrate the continuity of similar motifs and symbols in ancient art objects over a wide swath of greater Asia, many linked to shared or similar shamanic beliefs. To that end the 145 objects in the exhibition range in origin from Anatolia, the Middle East (Persia, Syria), along the Eurasian steppes through Central Asia to China, Mongolia and Japan. Objects include plaques, ornament, weapons and tools, finials and ritual vessels, crafted in a variety of material (many in bronze, but also in jade and other precious stone, silver and gold). Includes detailed descriptions of each exhibit and scholarly essays. Former owner's stamp on FFEP. A few minor spots of abrasion on the cover; internal pages pristine. 186 pp., 5 col. and 140 b&w photos, 35 b&w figs., 2 maps. Size: 27 x 21 cm.
