Zustand: Very Good. Lithographic reprint. Broadside (9" x 12"). Printed on wove paper. The sheet is toned, a few short tears at the edges, very good. First printed at Philadelphia in 1862. The Gray Reserves, the First Regiment Infantry Reserve Brigade, was organized in Philadelphia in April 1861, under command of Col. Peter C. Ellmaker. During the crisis of 1862, it was mustered in as the 7th Infantry Regiment, Pennsylvania Militia. A nice reproduction of the original draft poster.

This is one of 280 limited editions, of which 250 are for sale, this being #244. the foldout map of Virginnia in the 1600's in the front has some curling, otherwise in very good condition. there are remnants of a dampstain on the edges of the pages 33-83, not affecting the text. Overall a tight clean copy. This is an 1866 facsimile of the 1608 edition. There are ink notes on the title page. Size: 7 1/4" x 9 ". Book.

[Book history] RARE PUBLISHERS' SAMPLES. Five volumes, octavo (largest volume 22 x 15cm). Each in publisher's cloth, all slim volumes lacking titles to spines. Each sample is unique, some containing lined paper at the back for the salesman to record subscribers. Every volume contains a sample of the text and various illustrations from the printed book, with the 'London Dickens' advertising a set rather than a single title. Both 'The London Dickens' and 'Our Martyred President' contain samples of alternative bindings, including leather. 'Earl Kitchener' contains instructions to salesmen. All volumes used with some wear and tear. An uncommon collection of sample volumes. Very good.
