Illustrated with eight monochrome plates. ***Very good in blue cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. The boards are generally clean, but have some fading to the spine and top edge of the front…board. Spine tight. Pages clean. Bottom edge of the page block untrimmed and the bottom edge of the pages unevenly cut throughout (by the printer). Internally also very good with no inscriptions. Some light foxing to the endpapers, but the interior pages are clean. The plates have wrinkled slightly at the gutters over time due to the thin paper used. ***In a good only original colour printed dustwrapper, with the published price of 5s. net on the spine. The dustwrapper is fairly complete, but there is a large oblong chip at the top edge of the back panel. There is also a smaller chip to the top edge of the front panel. Small closed tears and nicks to the edges and corner tips. Slight loss and creasing to the head and tail of the spine of the dustwrapper. The dustwrapper is also slightly discoloured and marked (being a matt cream background) with a tiny red ink stain to the bottom outer corner of the front panel (please see scans). ***160 pages including an author's preface and Bibliographical Index. 192mm x 128mm.***'The story of Fanny Burney, the demure eighteenth-century "Miss" whose first novel kept Burke from his bed and Sir Joshua Reynolds from the dinner table, takes us into the same society that still lives in the pages of Boswell.
