Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine. London: Jonathan Cape, 1968. Second printing. 8vo. Dark brown textured-paper boards; silver spine titles; red topstain; dust jacket. Xiv, 198pp.; index. Some light water splashing to topstain; mild thumb-smudging to fore-edge; inked gift inscription on ffep. Very good or better in a near fine jacket, shallowly clipped at all four corners but with original price still present; one short closed tear at base of front flap hinge. Attractive reprint of the uncommon UK edition of Carmichael (later Kwame Ture) and Hamilton's revolutionary critique of American racism, which offered a framework for radical Black political reform. Notable, among things, for introducing the now widely acknowledged concept of "institutional racism.".

Text block toned, as usual. Signed flat by Carmichael on the interior of front wrap. Scarce signed. Shelved case 1 1/2. Kwame Ture, born Stokely Carmichael, was an American activist who played a major role in the civil rights movement in the United States and the global pan-African movement. He was a key leader in the development of the Black Power movement, with the first popular use of the term "black power" as a social and racial slogan given by Carmichael. He lead the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), was an "Honorary Prime Minister" of the Black Panther Party (BPP), and served as a leader of the All-African People's Revolutionary Party (A-APRP). Black Power: The Politics of Liberation defines Black Power, presents insights into the roots of racism in the United States and suggests a means of reforming the traditional political process for the future. 1382228.
