Newton Booth Tarkington (1869 - 1946) was an American novelist and dramatist best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning novels "The Magnificent Ambersons" and "Alice Adams." This is his second book. Monsieur Beaucaire was adapted as a 1924 silent film drama based on the Booth Tarkington novel. Filmed at Paramount Studios in New York City, it was produced and directed by Sidney Olcott and starred Rudolph Valentino. It was later (1946) adapted as a comedy starring Bob Hope. Jack London's animal fiction has captured the hearts and imaginations of generations of Americans. A socialist, animal activist, and eugenicist, London was a complex man who participated in unemployment protests and the Alaskan Gold Rush.
