Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. I am pleased to offer a very nice copy of a classic travel book titled: Cruising Among the Caribbees- Summer Days in Winter Months by Charles Augustus Stoddard. I was able to find out a bit more about the author as his papers are held in the libraries of Columbia University/Union Theological Seminary. Herewith an excerpt from that online site: Charles Augustus Stoddard was born in Boston, Massachusetts on May 28, 1833 to parents Charles and Mary Noble (nee Porter) Stoddard. In addition to his extensive editorial work in his lifetime, (his byline was often given simply as Augustus ), Stoddard wrote a number of travel and commemorative monographs, including: Across Russia, from the Baltic to the Danube (1891) Spanish Cities (1892) Beyond the Rockies: A Spring Journey in California (1894), The Centennial Celebration of Williams College (ed., 1894), Cruising Among the Caribbees (1895). This small hard cover book (5 ? x 8 inches, 198 pages plus 4 pages of publisher s adverts) was published by Charles Scribner s Sons of New York dated 1895 and the First Edition with the same date on title and copyright pages. The book is very well illustrated with a tissue-guarded frontispiece and 15 additional vintage b&w photographs of the scenes and people of the Caribbean (all present and accounted for; I know as I checked). The book is bound in green boards decorated with an orange tree motif and gilt titles on cover and spine. Please see the photos of the Table of Contents and the List of Illustrations for your further information. Condition: This book is in very good condition: The hard covers are very handsome and presentable albeit probably a bit dulled from the original but still quite attractive. Inside there is a Christmas Day gift inscription (1895) on the front endpaper and some toning probably from the binding glues (also on the rear endpaper). The interior pages and photo plates are clean and bright throughout without toning or foxing. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight, sound and square.…
