The spine has been repaired with a leather strip. The boards are much worn, scuffed, marked all about from handling, storage, shelving, time. They are steady, sound. The front pastedo…wn has an ex-libris plate. The frontispage has two previous owner signatures including ([.] Pienaar Hope Villa Nieuw Bethesda). The contents have some very few age-related marks. The boards are scruffy, much worn, scuffed and marked all about. The leather spine too, has wear, scuffing, aging. The boards and spine are sure. Within the binding at the back of the book is lo…ose. The security of the contents is unaffected. The frontispage has a gift inscription from the Revd W Thompson (of the Union Chapel in Cape Town and Agent for the South African Missions of the LMS), dated 1866. The front pastedown has an ex-libris plate. The binding along the frontis papers have been rudely repaired, at some stage, with scotch tape. The contents are benign. The early and later pages are rubbed and marked by hand and age. The pages in between have some scarce age related marks and spots. The binding along pp 128/129 is weak. Page ix at the rear has storage and shelving wear and marks. Despite these distractions, the contents are generally mild-mannered, clean and clear, comfortable, more than competent, still keen. fk.
