Brussels, Fr. Gobbaerts, 1878. Small publication in an unprinted purple cover. 24 p. Descriptions of 58 medals in French. No pictures as issued. 1st edition. Cover a bit discolored. Worn at the edges, but a delicate publication in very good condition. With former owner's name written on upper cover: 'J.C. Hills/ Asylum St/ Hartford'. This is in all probability the great medal collector Jonas Coolidge Hills (1851-1913). From his obituary in The Numismatist: "Not only did he know every medal in his collection, but he knew the personal history of each, as well, together with that of the men who owned the medal originally, and he was fond of telling about them to friends and collectors.".
