Rare publication of great academic and bibliographical importance directed by César Bunster Calderón who for long years dedicated to education, writer and founder of the Institute of Literature Chilean in 1960, at the initiative of the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Education of the University of Chile at that time, Eugenia González. Bunster was born in Concepción, on July 5, 1894. While a student at the Law School of the U. de Chile, he began journalism. Later he studied Pedagogy in Spanish and Civic Education. He was the author of several plays and the book of essays En Tmno a la Docencia (1952). During the presidencies of Aguirre Cerda and Rios, he was in charge of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education. At the University of Chile he held the Assistant Professor of Chilean Literature and the Chair of General Literature. Among his orienting work of teaching. It fits him to be the renovator of the texts with selected readings for the Spanish classes. an effort that began around 1930 with the series entitled El Niño Chileno. As Director of the Institute of Chilean Literature, he set out a publication plan and a large part of the essential lines of a research plan, the results of which were published in the Bulletin of the Chilean Literature Institute (Nos. 1 to 16 , 1961-1968). in bibliographies, selections and essays by professors from the University and abroad. as well as in the initiation of a Library of Chilean Writers, with the annotated edition of the Historical Relation of the Kingdom of Chile, by Father Aionso de Ovalle (1969).
