V nasi rodine po nem nezustala zadna fotografie ani vzpominka. Matka zahladila stopy po svem prvnim manzelovi tak dokonale, ze snad uz ani sama nevedela, jak vypadal. Cim jsem byl starsi, tim vic jsem si na ulici prohlizel kolemjdouci a uvazoval, ktery z nich by mohl byt muj tata. Kazdy, koho jsem znal, tatu mel, a kdyz ne, alespon vedel, jak vypada. Uvnitr ta nejistota boli. "Byla valka," to bylo jedine matcino vysvetleni. Autorka matka je hrdinkou uvodniho dilu "rodinne sagy", jejiz pokracovani jsme jiz poznali. Do krasne Bozenky se zamiluje pekarsky delnik Jaroslav, ktery ji pronasleduje, az podlehne a chysta se svatba. Po porodu syna se rodina stehuje do pohranici, kde po valce zustalo mnoho prazdnych domu. Jaroslav se stava sefem pekarny, ale doma panuje chlad, zatimco Bozenka se meni na zhyckanou panicku, kterou nikdo nema rad. Na tancovackach stale vyhlizi muze, ktereho ji predurcil osud. Kdyz se skutecne objevi, Bozenka se do nej blaznive zamiluje. Jaroslav, citove vyprahly, se spusti s mladou cikankou. Bozencina nevera je brzy odhalena, Jaroslav citi, ze se mu hrouti zivot, a doma si vybije vztek na zene, ktera nakonec odchazi s dvouletym synem.
