Zustand: Fine. Albany, February 9, 1965., 1965. Fine. - Over 80 words typed on 10-1/2 inch high by 7-1/4 inch wide "State of New York Conservation Department" stationery. Then Secretary, the future Deputy Conservation Commissioner, Cecil E. Heacox encloses material (not here present) and information while thanking Poughkeepsie's Superintendent of Parks Herbert W. Saltford for his help. "I am enclosing some material on Mr. Alexander Aldrich which I hope will be helpful to the local press in connection with his talk at Rotary on March 24." "The topic of Mr. Aldrich's talk will be 'Education for Citizenship'." Signed "Cecil". There is the hint of an indentation from a paper clip at the top. Else, fine. The deputy commissioner of the State of New York's Conservation Department Cecil E. Heacox (1903-1992) had first joined the department as a fish hatchery helper, moving up to senior aquatic biologist. He had served as district fisheries manager in Rochester and Poughkeepsie and is credited with saving the Chautauqua Lake muskellunge population through his management program and restoration efforts. He was the author of "The Compleat Brown Trout" and "The Education of an Outdoorsman".
