Paperback. 8vo. Stiff yellow wrappers. v, 37pp, (5pp), (8pp ads). Illustrations. Near fine. Handsome first edition of this nifty bibliography of private press volumes published in 1961. From the private library of JOHN BEECHER (1904-80), noted social protest poet and fine press publisher. His wife, artist Barbara Beecher (b. 1925), neatly inks "Marked Copy / See Pgs. 22 & 33" in red near the bottom of the front wrapper; a 3" X 3" yellow Post-It note affixed to the front flyleaf also notes "Rampart Press / See Pgs. 22 & 23 / B.M.B." in her hand. Page 23 lists Rampart Press and describes John Beecher's poetry collection "Phantom City" and his poetry leaflet "Homage to a Subversive." Finally, page 24 reproduces a Rampart Press colophon page featuring their Indian-inspired symbol, a piece of artwork by Barbara Beecher; on this page another 3" X 3" yellow Post-It note is affixed with "Rubber block / print" inked in her large hand. A nice association copy.

Hardcover. Zustand: Very good. Beckerman (endpaper illustration) (illustrator). Presumed First Edition, First printing. xii, 215, [1] pages. Illustrated endpapers. Illustrations (a few in color). Folding maps. Dornbusch 1347. Format is approximately 8.5 inches by 10.5 inches. Bookplate of previous owner on fep. Small edge tears on several pages noted. This is the second volume of the history of the 2d U.S. Infantry Division in the Korean conflict. It covers two campaigns: the Second Korean Winter (28 November 1951--20 April 1952) and Korea, Summer-Fall 1952 (1 May 1952--30 November 1952). All efforts were directed to give adequate coverage to all units and to present an accurate and objective account of their activities from the end of the Heartbreak Ridge action on 25 October 1951, which concluded the first volume, to 30 November 1952. The account of tactical operations for infantry united was carried through until 31 December 1952, when the Division was relieved and moved into reserve. Emphasis was placed upon photographs to record forever this period of the Division's history for the men who lived it. The 2nd Infantry Division ("Indianhead"; "2ID," "2nd ID", or "Second D") is a formation of the United States Army. With the outbreak of hostilities in Korea during the summer of 1950, the 2nd Infantry Division was the first unit to reach Korea directly from the United States. The entire division was committed as a unit on 24 August 1950, relieving the 24th Infantry Division at the Naktong River Line. In the 16-day battle, the division's clerks, bandsmen, technical and supply personnel joined in the fight to defend against the attackers. The Chinese winter offensive was finally blunted by the 2nd Infantry Division on 31 January at Wonju. In February 1951, the division repulsed a powerful Chinese counter-offensive in the epic battles of Chipyong-ni and Wonju. In August 1951, it was on the offensive once again, ordered to attack a series of ridges that had been designated threats to the Eighth Army's line. These actions would devolve into the terrible battles that would become Bloody Ridge and Heartbreak Ridge.
