Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good+. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good dj. Illustrated by (dj) "BA" (Boris Artzybasheff) (illustrator). First American Edition. [good sound copy with light shelfwear, minor soiling to edges of text block, some discoloration to pastedowns, code number rubber-stamped on rear endpaper; the jacket is heavily edgeworn (with an almost complete separation along the rear flapfold), a long ragged diagonal closed tear at the bottom of the rear panel, several other smaller closed tears and edge-nicks, and some soiling to the rear panel]. The fourth of this author's half-dozen novels (all pretty scarce), before she gave up fictioning (at the suggestion of Noël Coward) and took up playwriting. The book, a "chronicle of conflicting passions, comedy, grief and sharp irony," follows the life of a young playwright from age 17 to 35, during which time he achieves success, falls in love and marries -- but then descends into bitterness when his wife's acclaim as a dress designer eclipses his own fading reputation.

Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. First American edition (published in the U.K. as *Heron*). A bit of staining and foxing on the endpapers, else about fine in attractive very good or better dustwrapper with a modest chip at the foot of the spine and other light wear. First novel, purportedly by the daughter of a famous author who wrote this under a pseudonym, about the three daughters of a famous author, and the unusual control he exerts over his daughters romantic and social lives. Handsome copy of an uncommon title. *OCLC* locates four copies, but doesn't reveal the author's true identity.
