Prima edizione di questa ''lunga relazione del viaggio delle sorelle Catlow che percorrono la Svizzera e l'Italia dal Veneto a Milano, Genova e Roma'' (Réan), ma anche Napoli e Campania. Il viaggio fu effettuato tra il 1856 ed il 1857 e ricalca il consueto itinerario del Grand Tour, con l'aggiunta di visite ed escursioni sulle Alpi (alle quali è dedicato quasi l'intero primo volume, con un capitolo sul Monte Bianco ed una tavola; nel IV cap. del II vol. brevi cenni sul Monte Rosa) ed ampia descrizione della fauna e flora alpine.
