The journal records a journey by Thomas Cather and his friend Henry Tyler, two young land owning Irishmen between February a nd December, 1836. The visit covered the greater part of the United States from Chicago to New Orleans, with travel by horseback, wagon, and river steamer. They alos visited Havana, Canada, and a visit into Native American country.
