Prima rara di questo importante testo di geometria descrittiva, opera del celebre matematico belga, Eugène Charles Catalan (Bruges, 30 maggio 1814 Bruges, 14 febbraio 1894). L'autore studiò matematica all'École Polytechnique di Parigi dove si era trasferito proprio per questo scopo. Eugène Charles Catalan è stato uno dei più eminenti matematici del XIX secolo, noto per i suoi significativi contributi in vari campi della matematica.
