36 x 50 Cm, Mappe, Zustand: Wie neu. Portfolio with introd. book + 8 loose-leaf of plates ; 50 cm Zustand: wie neu; Leinenmappe mit Goldgeprägtem Titel- und Rückenschild, The drawings are reproduced by gracious permissioni of Her Majesty the Queen , The eight drawings by Holbein in the Royal Collection of members of the family of Sir Thomas More provide the most important surviving record of the group portrait painted for More's home in Chelsea in 1527. The painting, in distemper on canvas, showed in all ten or eleven members of More's household, gathered around the seated figure of Sir Thomas and surrounded by the books in which they so delighted. More's father Sir John, his second wife Alice, his three daughters Margaret (Roper), Elizabeth (Dauncey) and Cecily (Heron), his son John with his betrothed Anne Cresacre, his adopted daughter Margaret Giggs, and More's fool Henry Patenson. An eleventh figure, that of More's secretary John Harris, is present in some versions of the painting. The Royal Library at Windsor contains preparatory studies of seven of these eleven figures: no other preparatory drawings appear to have survived." ue10435 Wenn das Buch einen Schutzumschlag hat, ist das ausdrücklich erwähnt. In den Warenkorb[2] + 170pp., 8vo. On 172 leaves, held together by a steel stud. In good condition, lightly aged, with discoloring to first leaf and the last seven leaves dogeared. The names of the crew are given on the first covering page, and the cast of characters (but not the names of the actors playing them) on the second. An interesting artefact, indicative of the continuing reassessment and reinterpretation of the works of one of Britain's great writers. While its production values met with some praise, Wadey's adaptation was not particularly well received, the introduction of 'Gothic novel fantasies' meeting with particular criticism. Katharine Schlesinger played Catherine Morland; Peter Firth, Henry Tilney; Robert Hardy, General Tilney; Googie Withers, Mrs. Allen; and Geoffrey Chater, Mr. Allen.
