Erstausgabe
First Edition. Fine cloth copy in an equally fine dust-wrapper. Particularly and surprisingly well-preserved; tight, bright, clean and especially sharp-cornered. Literally as new, still in the publisher's original shrink wrap. Physical description; 313 pages : illustrations (some colour) ; 30 x 30 cm. Summary; James Casebere (born 1953) emerged in the Pictures Generation as an artist-photographer complicating the status of the photographic image alongside Cindy Sherman and Richard Prince. His earliest works dismantled the codes of American suburbia and the myth of the west, but he quickly arrived at the practice for which he is best known today: the construction of formally simplified architectural models--arenas, monasteries, tunnels, factories--which Casebere lights and photographs in his studio. In the early 1990s, as the ramifications of Michel Foucault's critiques of architecture and power took hold in American culture, Casebere's practice developed into a study of architectural typologies of the Enlightenment era, particularly prisons. The lighting in his photographs is dramatic, or rather it plays with the rhetoric of dramatic lighting, qualified by the sheer artifice of the architectural models themselves. Edited by Okwui Enwezor, this major mid-career survey includes several of Casebere's lesser-known early works, as well as previously unreproduced sculpture and photographs from 1975 to 2010. Enwezor contributes both an introduction and a conversation with the artist. The volume also contains essays by Hal Foster and Toni Morrison. James Casebere: Works 1975-2010 is the most comprehensive monograph to date on this important American artist. Subjects; Casebere, James Catalogs. Staged photography. Photography of sculpture. Models and modelmaking Pictorial works. Architectural photography. 4 Kg.

Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine. 1st Edition. First edition, first printing. Hardcover. Textured paper-covered boards, with photographically illustrated dust jacket. Photographs by James Casebere. Essays (in English) by Christopher Chang (Photographer), Jeffrey Eugenides and Anthony Vidler. Includes a list of works, an illustrated exhibition history and illustrated bibliography. 192 pp. with 40 four-color plates, 36 duotone plates and 27 black-and-white reference illustrations. 12-1/4 x 9-3/4 inches. Near Fine, in Near Fine dust jacket (bump to the heel of the spine, else Fine). From the publisher: "Over the last 25 years James Casebere has utilized the combined influences of film, architecture, sculpture, and conceptual art, occasionally in large temporary installations, but primarily in the construction of table top models he then photographs in his studio. Casebere's early work examined myths of American identity, concentrating on images of main street, suburbia, home, and work. While consistently evoking the broad sweep of history, Casebere moved on to consider the subject matter of the American landscape and stereotypes of the American West. Since 1992 his work has focused upon such varied social spaces as prisons, schools, libraries, corridors, underground tunnels and sewers; spaces of isolation and circulation. His mysterious, beautiful, and often uncanny work has been exhibited and collected by museums worldwide. This monograph surveys the development and career of this groundbreaking artist.".
