Sticker to inside cover saying 'Wigan Free Public Library'. Small label to top corner of inside cover. Beige cloth and boards with black lettering. Couple of small marks to boards. The scope and the purpose of this bibliography can most easily be explained through a brief account of its genesis. It is an outgrowth of a dissertation offered in candidacy for the doctorate at Yale University. The dieerstation was a study of English literary taste as exhibited in the poetical miscellanies of the first quarter of the eighteenth century. As a preliminary to this study I compile a bibliography of the miscellanies, not only of the period under consideration, but also of the periods immediately preceding and following. Eventually I found myself in possession of a faily extensive bibliography covering the years from 1660 to 1750. My difficulties in collecting this material suggested that its publication would not be without value, but it seemed obvious that a more careful and complete work, beginning with the earliest printed miscellany, would be far more useful. 386 pp. Hand cut pages. Hardback. A Bibliography of English Corantos and Periodical Newsbooks 1620-1642. Ex-library with ex-library markings. Sticker to inside cover saying 'Wigan Public Libraries'. First Edition.Bound in quarter-cloth on paper boards. This is a work of bibliography which covers a range of miscellaneous literature from the years 1520 to 1750. It was originally created due to the author, Arthur E. Case, and a dissertation that he wrote for Yale University. He was seeking to pursue his doctorate at the university, with a focus on 'English literary taste as exhibited in the poetical miscellanies', and drafted a bibliography to support it.The books mentioned in this work are described chronologically, and is based upon the holdings of four libraries which are the 'richest in English poetical miscellanies', those being the British Museum, the Bodleian, and the libraries of Yale and Harvard.Contents begin with 'Thus endeth the Christmasse carol', and end with 'Wit's Cabinet'. An addendum and indexes follow the text.Written by Arthur Ellicott Case (1894-1946), who also wrote 'Four Essays on Gulliver's Travels'.Collated, complete. Bound in quarter-cloth on paper boards.
