Pritzel 1541. - "Durch glückliche Kuren berühmt geworden, erlangte Carrichter den Rang eines Leibarztes Ferdinands I. und Maximilians II, doch soll er 1564 den Tod des letzteren, der an Nierensteinen litt, durch einen Kunstfehler verschuldet haben. Von Kurfürst August von Sachsen wurde er zur Behandlung von dessen Mutter herangezogen, und schließlich ging er zu Johann von Neumark, mit dem er in gelehrtem Briefwechsel stand, nach Küstrin. Carrichter gehörte zu dem von der zünftigen Schulmedizin der Zeit befeindeten Kreis der Paracelsisten, so daß sein Bild in der Beurteilung durch die Zeitgenossen schwankt. Während ihn Crato von Crafftheim der Unfähigkeit zieh, gab Michael Toxites noch nach seinem Tode Schriften von ihm heraus. Im 16. Jahrhundert wurde Carrichters Kräuterbuch hochgeschätzt, in dem die Heilpflanzen nach den Tierkreiszeichen geordnet sind und den Planetenstellungen Wichtigkeit für das Einsammeln und Anwenden der Kräuter beigemessen wird. Länger denn als Astrologe wurde er als Diätetiker geschätzt. Seine oft gedruckte `Speißkammer` ist eine auf Grund reicher Erfahrung, zum Teil mit kräftigem Humor dargestellte Ernährungslehre für Gesunde und Kranke" (NDB III, 158). "In this astrological `Kreutterbuch` of Bartholomaeus Carrichter , the plants are arranged acording to the signs of the zodiac, but the principle on which this allotment is made remains mysterious to the lay mind.
