Este estudo sobre a exposição a fungos em contexto ocupacional visa conhecer o risco de infecção e/ou lesão (Tinea pedis e onicomicose) nos trabalhadores dos ginásios com piscina e a sua eventual relação com a exposição à contaminação fúngica dos locais de trabalho. As amostras utilizadas são constituídas por 10…ginásios com piscina e por 124 trabalhadores. Foram também realizadas 258 colheitas biológicas aos pés dos trabalhadores e efectuada a avaliação ambiental da contaminação fúngica dos estabelecimentos (ar e superfícies). Os resultados mostram que dos 124 trabalhadores que participaram no estudo, 58 (46,8%) possuíam lesões visíveis e que as Leveduras foram as mais isoladas (41,4%), seguidas dos Dermatófitos (24,1%) e de Fungos Filamentosos Não Dermatófitos (6,9%). No que concerne à contaminação fúngica das superfícies, o Fusarium foi o género mais frequente, antes e depois da lavagem e desinfecção (19,1% - 17,2%) e em relação à contaminação fúngica do ar, o género mais frequentemente isolado foi o Cladosporium (36,6%). Ficou comprovada a influência da duração da exposição ao factor de risco (contaminação fúngica do ambiente profissional), para a presença de lesão visível nos trabalhadores. Concluiu-se que é necessária a intervenção em Saúde Ocupacional no âmbito da vigilância ambiental e da saúde, com o intuito de diminuir a prevalência das infecções fúngicas.
