Erstausgabe
First Edition. One of 18 copies (plus an additional 6 artist's proofs). Oblong octavo (15.5cm x 23cm); folded and gathered sheets of handmade paper in various shades of beige and grey, sewn together at spine; text is letterpress printed in black and silver inks on a Vandercook 4 press; [44]pp. Fine. An elegant and truly harrowing volume produced by letterpress printer, papermaker, and book artist Caren Heft, part of the Children Don't Count Project - a memorial to children under the age of 14 murdered in the United States in 1993. The volume begins by printing the text of the traditional children's bedtime prayer "Now I lay me down to sleep," followed by the names, birth and death dates, and method of death (all of them violent) of children murdered in the State of Wisconsin. A sobering testament, giving voice to those who no longer have one. OCLC notes 10 holdings. 87859.
