Robert Eastburn, a deacon in the First Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia, while on his way to the frontier post of Oswego to engage in Indian trade, was captured by French soldiers and Iroquois on a wagon road just north of what is now Rome, New York. He was carried to Canada and held by variously by the French and the Iroquois for nearly two years before he escaped to Quebec. …
