He draws on a number of little-known sources, including material from the East German communist archives on Cuba, which were until recently inaccessible. (Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper) ***"This is a balanced, carefully researched, and sensitively written look at Fidel Castro and his legacy in Cuba. I have been involved in the Cuban drama since I first arrived in Havana in 1958 as Third Secretary of the old American embassy. Yet even I learned much from this book. I highly recommend it." - Wayne S. Smith, the former Chief of the U.S. Interests Section in Havana (1979-82), is now an Adjunct Professor at John Hopkins University in Baltimore and a Senior Associate of the Center for International Policy in Washington, D.C.' (Review quote taken from the back panel of the dustwrapper) ***A first impression of the first UK edition in beautiful collector's condition. About the book >.>.> This book was conceived, written and published in Italian at a time when Sir Karl Popper was still alive and active. It therefore seemed fitting, for the English translation, to update the biographi-cal information as well as the bibliography. I did not think it necessary to make any major changes, because the aim of this work is to draw out the main lines of Popper's thought and to show that they remained constant through the evolution of his huge body of writings. The Italian text was, however, intended for a public familiar with a cultural context that is not exactly the same as that of the English-speaking countries, and so the present edition differs at certain points from the original. I have also adopted a number of suggestions made by Professor Pieranna Garavaso of Minnesota University, who very kindly read the text and commented on it in detail. I would like to thank her most warmly for her invaluable remarks, which helped me in no small measure to improve the book and to make it more suitable for English-.
