In den WarenkorbIn two parts, each with the first page carrying the identically-worded petition. Part One: folio, 10 pp. Part Two: folio, 8 pp. Both texts clear and complete. On heavily aged and worn paper, with part of the blank last leaf of the second part torn away. The petition is by 'Freeholders and Ratepayers and others Residents [sic] in the parishes of Llanrhaiadr Mochnant Llanarmon Mynydd Mawr Pennant Hirnant and Llangynog being respectively interested in the Trade of the District and its general Welfare': 'We are of opinion that no Arguments that we can urge are required to convince you of the importance and desirability of having a Railway for the district in question. Wherefore we leave to the Deputation which wait upon you in this matter to explain all sundry matters and details in relation to the scheme we are now endeavouring to promote.' Many of the large number of signatures are arranged under the names of towns and townships (i.e. 'Cefncoch Township', 'LLanarmon Mynydd Mawr' and 'Hirnant'). Two lines, both later absorbed by Cambrian Railways, give a clue to the dating of the petition: the Oswestry and Newtown Railway, opened in 1855, and the Oswestry, Ellesmere and Whitchurch Railway, opened in 1861.
