Navy, having captained the USS Skate, a nuclear sub which sailed twice to the North Pole. President Dwight Eisenhower signed the law in 1954 which added the words, "under God", to the Pledge. Daugherty's final picture depicts Eisenhower and his new successor as President, John F. Kennedy. Daugherty's work integrates a heroic style, typical of his work on murals, with the bright colors of syncrhomism.
