Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Rimah Mary (Callender) Byer (illustrator). First US Edition. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, green cloth boards show scuffing and spotting with washed out spots on the front. What makes this copy unique is the beautiful illustrations throughout, all hand-drawn and painted. These are done by the wife of the gentleman's name on the bookplate: Herman Bailey Byer. Rimah Mary (Callender) Byer was a West Virginia artist personally illustrated this book for her grandson John Michael Byer. The photos show most of her artwork throughout the book, although there are a few small ones that are not pictured. The cutout pencil drawing of the woman's head was also found inside the book, presumably from the same artist. Mrs. Byers work is quite amazing and makes this truly a one-of-a-kind item. Herman Byer was the Assistant Commissioner of Labor for the Bureau of Statistics and received the Department of Labor's Award for distinguished service. The book shows spotting and handling on the outside with some binding pulling on the inside, but the hinges are good at the boards. This is a very beautiful copy, only because of the artwork Rimah Byer put into the book for her grandson.
