Soft cover. Zustand: Good. 1st Edition, Illustrated Edition. CALDWELL, Cy; MORROW, Lowell Howard; ROBERTS, W. Adolphe; et al. True Detective Mysteries. Vol. VII, No. 6. September 1927. Jamaica, New York: New Metropolitan Fiction, Inc., 1927. ORIGINAL SERIAL APPEARANCE, September 1927 issue. Quarto (4to). 112 pp. Original color pictorial wrappers with cover artwork by Jean Oldham. Profusely illustrated throughout, with extensive contemporary advertising. Contains the opening installment of Cy Caldwell's The Mystery of the Vanished Car, prominently credited "By 'Doctor Watson, Jr.' as told to Cy Caldwell." In the mystery story, two youthful amateur detectives model themselves upon Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson while investigating a murder and the disappearance of a freight car, much to the amusement of the seasoned detectives working the case. The narrative presents their adventure through the voice of "Doctor Watson, Jr." Other contents include "Easy Money" by Lowell Howard Morrow, "Night-Life Polly" by W. Adolphe Roberts, "The Murder at Pinehurst" by Dan B. Hosmer, "The Hundred-Thousand-Dollar Smile" by Rene Hanley, and "The Crime Without a Clue" by Arthur Halleck. The detective stories, striking Jean Oldham cover artwork, and extensive period advertising make this an appealing surviving issue from the formative years of True Detective Mysteries. Contents generally clean and unmarked. Stapled binding remains sound, with clean staples. Original wrappers show rubbing, edge wear to the crown and foot of spine, minor chipping along edges; pp. 11, 62, 106 have small clipped portions. Front cover pictorial remains bright and attractive. A Good plus copy of a scarce 1920s detective pulp. [Attributes: First Edition; First Printing; Soft Cover; Illustrated.]. Jean Oldham (illustrator).…
