Z : 20 x 26 cm, 144 Seiten, 85 farbige Abbildungen und 1 s/w-Abbildung - Antonio Calderara (19031978) wandte sich 1924 nach nur einem Jahr Ingenieurstudium am Mailänder Polytechnikum seiner Leidenschaft zu: der Malerei. Die wichtigsten künstlerischen Einflüsse erfuhr der Autodidakt durch die Konfrontation mit den Bildern von Piero della Francesca, Kasimir Malewitsch und Piet Mondrian. Als reifer Künstler entdeckte Calderara zudem Georges Seurat und Josef Albers neu für sich. In ihrem Geist übertrug er die gegenständliche Welt in harmonisch gefügte, geometrisch strenge Kompositionen. Dabei interessierte Calderara nicht die Gegenüberstellung von Gegenständlichkeit und Ungegenständlichkeit, sondern die Übertragung der an Ort und Zeit gebundenen Wirklichkeit in den von ihm als «spazio mentale» bezeichneten Bildraum.
