The sixth edition of this work in a quarter morocco binding, with moire silk end papers. All edges gilt. Illustrated with an engraved title page, a title page vignette, a further fifty-three plates and numerous in-text illustrations. Collated, complete. Rodolphe Töpffer (1799-1846) was a Swiss teacher, author, and cartoonist. He is best known for his illustrated books, which are considered to be some of the earliest European comics. This is his travel work, following his journey the through the Alps, towards Milan, then on to Como and Chamonix. In this edition, the journey extends to Venice, and returns via Lake Garda towards Switzerland. Illustrated throughout by a variety of artists. In a quarter morocco binding. Externally sound, with shelf wear to the boards and extremities, and rubbing to the spine. Small losses to the head and tail of the spine, and a little splitting to the tail of the front joint. Schöne frühe Ausgaben der zweiteiligen Voyages en Zigzag. Der französischsprachige Schweizer Novellist, Schriftsteller und Zeichner Rodolphe (auch Rudolf oder Rudolphe) Töpffer (1799-1849) gilt als Vorreiter der Comic-Bücher und einer der ersten Künstler, die Panels für ihre Werke verwandten. "Es ist wirklich zu toll! Es funkelt alles von Talent und Geist! Einige Blätter sind ganz unübertrefflich!
