Hardback. Zustand: Very Good Plus. First Edition. 1901. First edition. xvi, 133pp., frontispiece and 34 other black and white illustrations, and 3 pages of advertisements for other books. Top edge gilt. Charles Victor Alexander Peel (1869-1931) was a British big game hunter and author, known for his contributions to zoology and his private museum in England. This is his account of hunting and fishing adventures in the rugged and remote Outer Hebrides, and he combines personal anecdotes with descriptions of the landscape and wildlife to be found there. It includes descriptions of sea-trout fishing, pigeon caves, shooting geese and wild swans, and shooting with the camera. The book is bound in the original red cloth covered bevelled boards with gold titling on the spine and gold titling with a gold illustration on the front board. The book is in excellent condition with some expected shelf wear to the boards and bumping to the spine ends. The spine is faded together with about 1/2" of the spine edge of both boards and there is also some fading along part of the top edge of the front board. The contents are tight and clean with some browning and foxing to the endpapers. The tissue-guard to the frontispiece is no longer present and a name has been written in pencil on the top edge of the half-title page.…

Despite this, the jacket is intact and legible. The boards are shelf rubbed, edge worn and quite marked, but remain strong and square. Internally, there is some very light foxing throughout, but there are no other markings or inscriptions, and the pages within are crisp, clean and complete.
