Cuthbert, ferner von den durch Goring an demsel…ben angeregten Verbesserungen - einige Jahre vor dem allgemein bekannten Pritchard'schen Instrument! "Goring (Micrographia, p.23,25) berrichtet, dass Gutbert, der bis jetzt unter allen Optikern bis jetzt die besten kataoptischen Mikroskope verfertigt hat, manchmal eine ganze Woche hindurch an einem einzigen Spiegelchen arbeitete, bevor er demselben die gewünschte Form verschaffte" Harting, I, p.183 "Indeß kann ich die gewöhnlich zusammen gesetzten Microscope, wie sie im Handel vorkommen, nur als bloße Spielerei betrachten, womit man etwa einer Dame eine brabanter Spitze zeigen kann. Wenn in ihrer Construction nicht durch archomatische Objectivgläser eine gründliche Reform hervorgebracht wird, so werden sie dem Amici'schen Microscope weichen müssen, da dieses nicht theurer zu stehen kommt, als die besten von jenen Instrumenten. Zusammengesetzte Microscope, sowohl als refractirende, als reflectirende, können in Ansehen der Construction zu derselben Genauigkeit gebracht werden, wie Telescope. Es sind in der That nicht anderes, als Telescope, welche mit divergirenden Strahlen, statt mit parallelen wirken. Der Name Egiscop würde für sie in ihrer vervollkommensten Gestalt passen". -cf. aus ob. Arb. Goring was an Edinburgh medical practitioner. He commissioned Tulley and others to make various modifications to the microscope. The above paper reports the first effective achromatic object - glass.

Following Goring & Pritchard?s collaboration on their important Natural history of?living o…bjects for the microscope (1829), the present book is concerned more with the instruments themselves. It contains two memoirs at the end, one by Francis Bauer on drawing microscopic subjects, and the other by Rev. J.B. Reade on illuminating microscopic objects.
