In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Used; Good. A 1944 edition of Alma Mater: A Profound Study of a Great University by C.R. Benstead. Both author and artist are in their old mood of innocent solemnity. Moreover, they know their cambridge. They deal with the famous sausage and eh Boat Race with the same misleading gravity as they examine the "lewd speech of the students" and the very real problem of reaching the railway station. Antiquarians may perhaps affect a note of scepticism on being told, albeit most convincingly, that the University owes its origin to a mesalliance in early Egypt, and classical scholars can hardly fail to wonder whether they have indeed overlooked a hitherto unsuspected source of poetic talent. Title: Alma Mater: A Profound Study of a Great University Author: C.R. Benstead Publisher: Frederick Muller Ltd. Publication Date: 1944 Format: Hardback Condition: This book is in good condition for its age other than some minor signs of wear to the dust-jacket and tanned pages.

Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good+. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good dj. 3rd printing. [good sound book, some uneven fading to spine cloth, modest shelfwear to lower extremities, slight bump to top rear corner; the jacket is edgeworn with various small nicks and tears, minor paper loss at spine ends and a couple of corners, general overall wear and light soiling, small closed tear and associated creasing at bottom of front panel (with old internal tape repair), old internal tape reinforcements at both ends of spine]. A fictionalized version of the Titanic disaster, about a luxury ocean liner on its maiden voyage "at smashing speed in the face of night, fog and ice to break the record and capture the supremacy of the Atlantic." Originally published in France in 1932 as "Parti di Liverpool"; the rear jacket panel is festooned with laudatory (but unattributed) quotes from England, where the book had been published in 1934. The New York Times critic praised the book for its "sheer narrative force" and lack of sentimentality, claiming: "It can be guaranteed that any one who starts this story will go through with it breathlessly to the end.".
