The fascinating self-published autobiography of Marshall MacDermott, who entered the British army in the year 1808, serving in various conflicts in Martinique, the United States and Canada, before befriending Lord Byron, and emigrating to the Swan River Colony in 1829. After a successful career in Western Australia, firstly in farming and then in banking, MacDermott moved to Adelaide in the 1850s where he represented Flinders in the South Australian House of Assembly 1857 - 1859, and in 1859 he was appointed a Special Magistrate. Scarce.
