Volume II contains five single-sided and five double-sided monochrome plates with the addition of one colour plate to page 601.This set compiles Pearson's Magazine issues from the year of its emersion, 1896. The monthly periodical specialised in speculative literature, left-leaning political discussion and the arts. Notably, it was the first British periodical to publish a crossword puzzle, which it did so in February 1922. Contributors to the magazine included George Bernard Shaw, Upton Sinclair and Phillips Oppenheim, among many more. These volumes feature texts like H. G. Wells' "In the Abyss", Allen Upward's "Secrets of the Courts of Europe" and Rudyard Kipling's "The Eathen". Bound in red half morocco with red cloth boards and marbled endpapers. Binder's stamp from Fazakerley Binder Manchester to rear of front free endpaper of both volumes. Externally, smart with slight fading, bumping, rubbing and general shelf wear. Tide mark and more moderate discolouration to the front board of Volume II. Internally, firmly bound. For the most part, pages bright and clean.
