Ann Cook and Friend is a transcription of a narrative found in a rare eighteenth century cookery book. The authoress, Mrs Ann Cook, gives an account of her life in service, and of her experiences as an innkeeper's wife at Hexham and Morpeth during the rising of the '45. But Mrs Cook does not content herself with her own autobiography; the middle part of the narrative is entirely concerned with the life and love-story of her friend.
