Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Quarto measuring 9" x 12". Brown leather. Gilt edges. A collection of 32 black and white or sepia toned photographs measuring 4" x 5" without captions. Rubbing, worn edges, and some spotting on the pages thus very good with near fine photographs. A photo album of mounted oval portraits of the Sharon, Pennsylvania Fire Department in the 1880s. Laid in is a note dated 1948 sent to the Sharon Herald newspaper which reads, in part, "This book was given to my father C.E. Bundel over 50 years ago. He was Chief of the Sharon Fire Dept for about 18 years, 1880 to 1898, as near as I can remember. Am sorry that father's picture in uniform is missing, but have added a later picture of him." Bundel was a Civil War veteran, fighting for the North, and was promoted to hospital steward. Using that knowledge he settled in Sharon and started a pharmacy. According to *The History of Mercer County*, he went on to organize the Sharon Engine and Hose Company which became the Sharon Fire Department and was Fire Chief for 21 years. Bundel is shown out of uniform, as the letter says, on the first page. Following this are 31 portraits of the men of the Sharon Fire Department in uniform. An interesting album compiled for a beloved fire chief in the 1880s.
