Bugnyon (1530-1590) ist heute vor allem noch als Dichter französischer Liebeslieder bekannt, verdiente sich aber als Anwalt in Lyon seinen Unterhalt. Er wurde als Rechtsgelehrter vor allem für die vorliegende Arbeit bekannt und geschätzt, der Zusammenstellung der Kommentare, die König Karl XVI. in Moulins erlassen hatte sowie der Behandlung der aufgehobenen und nicht mehr angewandten Gesetze in allen Gerichten, Gerichtsbarkeiten und Herrschaften des Königreichs Frankreich. Er erwarb sich so die hohe Wertschätzung Barnabas Brissons als auch des Kanzlers Michel de l'Hospital. Mehrere Rechtsgelehrte griffen die Arbeit Bugnyons kommentierend auf, die über einen langen Zeitraum von 200 Jahren in mehreren Ausgaben herausgebracht wurde.

Very good set. - This book was first published in 1563 as: 'Traicté des loix abrogées et inusitées en toutes les cours du royaume de France'. It examines ancient, obsolete, repealed and unusual laws across the Kingdom of France. During this time, the French legal system was undergoing unification and modernization, as at the end of the First French War of Religion, the monarchy sought to standardize laws across the diverse regions of the kingdom. This treatise by Philibert Bugnyon (1530?-1590) addresses a period of transition from medieval legal systems (which often had local customs) to the more uniform legal system imposed by the French monarchy. Bugnyon was particularly concerned with understanding how older legal norms and customs could be integrated, revised, or discarded within the context of a modernizing France. He has been regarded as an expert in medieval French law, with a strong focus on providing historical context for legal norms. The editor and publisher of this 1677 edition, Liberto Francisco Christyn, was a Jesuit scholar based in Brussels, at the time a part of the Spanish Netherlands. He supplemented the original text with additional material, explanations, indexes and commentary that helped the reader understand the legal framework of his time in a broader context.
