First edition, early printing of James Jones's monumental first novel, one of the great novels of World War II, signed by the leading stars of the classic 1953 film adaptation. Octavo, publisher's cloth. Boldly signed on the front free endpaper by four of the film's top stars: Frank Sinatra, Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift, and Deborah Kerr, together with its director Fred Zinnemann and producer Buddy Adler. Very good in a very good dust jacket, signature and ink stamp to the front pastedown. Rare and desirable with such a collection of signatures from the iconic film. From Here to Eternity is James Jones's commanding first novel of the peacetime Army on the brink of World War II, following Private Robert E. First published in 1951, it won the National Book Award for Fiction and is widely regarded as one of the finest American novels to emerge from the war. The 1953 film adaptation, directed by Fred Zinnemann and starring Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift, Frank Sinatra, Deborah Kerr, and Donna Reed, became a sensation and won eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor for Sinatra, whose comeback role as Angelo Maggio revived his career. The title comes from Rudyard Kipling's 1892 poem Gentlemen-Rankers, about soldiers who had lost their way and were damned from here to eternity.…
