In den WarenkorbCloth. Zustand: Good. Anthony Buckle (illustrator). First edition. A scarce first limited edition copy of Anthony Buckle's 'Yorkshire Etchings', copiously illustrated throughout. This edition is limited to five hundred copies, of which this copy is 'No. 2'. Supposedly Buckle's 'first attempts at Etching', this copy contains very attractive illustrations of notable buildings and locations in York, including: Whitby, Kirkham Priory, Kirkstall Abbey, Richmond Castle, York Minster and St. Hilda's Abbey. The etchings were reportedly taken from water-colour drawings, pencil and crayon drawings made by Buckle on his numerous visits to York. This text also contains a delightful series of sonnets accompanying the etchings on the opposite page, with numerous descriptions detailing the author's appreciative interest of the historic city and its landmarks. Collated, complete with twenty one etchings throughout. In a cloth binding with gilt detailing to front board and spine. Externally, generally smart. Bumping to extremities and head and tail of spine. Rubbing to joints, resulting in sections of splitting to cloth, more severe to rear joint. Faint handling marks to boards. Creasing and handling mark to spine. Book dealers label to tail of gutter, front pastedown. Internally, generally firmly bound, failed to first few pages and the occasional page: title page, dedication page, preface and contents detached but present. Tissue guard to plate VIII, and IX detached, not present. Tissue guards often detached but present, many chipped, folded and age toned. Pages generally bright and clean with light scattered spots to occasional page. Spotting to first and last few pages, heavier to limited edition colophon. Handling marks to occasional page. Good. book.
