Beneath the signature, in a contemporary hand, is 'Author of "One Manifold"' ('One, Manifold, or, System; Introductory Argument, in a Letter addressed to Raikes Currie, Esq., M.P.', published in 1848).

Auguste Le Barbier de Blignières (1825-1851) was a professor of rhetoric at the Collège Stanislas in Paris. He wrote many books on language and grammar, and is well known for his book "Essai sur Amyot et les traducteurs français au XVIe siècle" (Paris, 1851) about Jacques Amyot (1513-1593), the French Renaissance writer and translator.
