Hardcover. Zustand: New. Dust Jacket Included. Radiations are a two edged sword they can cure cancer as well as produce cancer. Roentgens historic discovery of X rays 100 years ago introduced a new tool to the medical field with potential for both diagnostic and therapeutic applications. But the early applications of X rays in medicine in the beginning of this century also revealed their damaging effects on healthy tissues. During our march forward through the century gathering more information on radiations and their interaction and expanding the area of our knowledge we have become more and more dependent on radiations and radioactive elements for our life and activities ranging from energy production to molecular biology. Radiotherapy is the most widely used non surgical methods in the treatment of cancers. But clinical experience shows that radiations are not always able to completely cure the tumors and therefore methods to enhance the tumoricidal effects of radiation are being studied. On the other side nuclear accidents and atmospheric releases of radiations and radioactive materials have increased the risk of genetic effects carcin genesis and embryonic malformations. Hence the current research gives great emphasis to radiation risk assessment. This book presents some of the current research in the above fields conducted in different laboratories which should give an insight into the contemporary problems occupying the radiation scientists in the basic and applied fields. Photo journalism is a particular form of journalism the collecting, editing and presenting of news material for publication or broadcast that creates images in order to tell a news story. It is now usually understood to refer only to still images, but in some cases the term also refers to video used in broadcast journalism. Photojournalism is distinguished from other close branches of photography i.e. documentary photography, social documentary photography, street photography or celebrity photography by complying with a rigid ethical framework which demands that the work is both honest and impartial whilst telling the story in strictly journalistic terms. Photojournalists create pictures that contribute to the news media.

Though India is the largest democracy in the world yet it is unfortunate find unequal access to development among different social and economic groups whether it is scheduled castes Tribes or women and so on. Efforts were on for quite sometime to provide needful opportunities to weaker sections to access development avenues yet the results were not quite encouraging. However it is heartening to observe that the recent past has been witnessing a sea change in terms of efforts to empower weaker sections especially in terms of targeting appropriate communities and the strategies adopted. Several of the initiatives promoted especially for women has indeed been noteworthy. Similar is the case with emphasis on education while empowering weaker sections. Given the India's status as the second most populous country in the world and the quantum of weaker sections to be covered in this regard there has always been scope and room to future refine the approach to develop weaker sections by studying the practices adopted and programmes undertaken. The above in background an attempt has been made through the collection of works as presented in the book to elucidate on importan.
