Pencil owner dedication and merry xmas amusingly added to illustrated end papers which are rubbed, crayoned and worn. Closed tear on half title page repaired skilfully. FIRST EDITION (1902), oblong 4to, 245 x 305 mm, 9¾ x 12 inches, red cloth spine, colour illustrated dark turquoise boards (a boy and a rabbit flying on the backs of 2 white geese, single goose on lower cover), illustrated endpapers, pages: (26) including half-title and title page, all printed 1 side only, 24 delightful full colour full page illustrations, also printed 1 side only. Spine cloth unevenly slightly darkened, a few very light scratches to covers, edges of boards very slightly rubbed, corners very slightly worn, neat brief early inscription on half-title, occasional very pale fox spots, rear pastedown slightly stained in top margin (see image 5), contents otherwise very clean, small closed tear to lower margin of Plate 2, another to lower margin of 1 text page, neatly repaired on blank side, 160 mm (6") closed vertical tear in the image of Plate 15 near left edge, almost invisible with neat old repair on blank side (image 5).
