Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The aim of this book is to describe contemporary analytical and semi analytical techniques for solving typical celestial-mechanics problems. The word 'techniques' is used here as a term intermediate between 'methods' and 'recipes'. One often conceives some method of solution of a problem as a general mathematical tool, while not taking much care with its computa tional realization. On the other hand, the word 'recipes' may nowadays be understood in the sense of the well-known book Numerical Recipes (Press et al. , 1992), where it means both algorithms and their specific program realiza tion in Fortran, C or Pascal. Analytical recipes imply the use of some general or specialized computer algebra system (CAS). The number of different CAS currently employed in celestial mechanics is too large to specify just a few of the most preferable systems. Besides, it seems reasonable not to mix the essence of any algorithm with its particular program implementation. For these reasons, the analytical techniques of this book are to be regarded as algorithms to be implemented in different ways depending on the hardware and software available. The book was preceded by Analytical Algorithms of Celestial Mechanics by the same author, published in Russian in 1980. In spite of there being much common between these books, the present one is in fact a new mono graph.

Die Autorin findet eine Antwort auf diese Frage, indem sie die Verwandlung des statistischen Aufmerksamkeitsregimes zwischen den 1940er und 1980er Jahren genauer untersucht, das den Babyboom überhaupt erst sichtbar machte und die in den geburtenstarken Jahren geborenen Menschen auf eine bestimmte Weise beschrieb. Die Studie befasst sich mit der Produktion und Verbreitung von sozialem Wissen durch den US-amerikanischen Bevölkerungszensus und liefert damit ein Beispiel für die 'Verwissenschaftlichung des Sozialen' sowie für den Prozesscharakter der Generationsrede. Erst die statistische Praxis der gesellschaftlichen Selbstbeobachtung ermöglicht es, den Babyboom als Ergebnis eines zunehmenden Kinderwunsches der white middle class in den suburbanen Vorstädten wahrzunehmen. Die Studie leistet einen wesentlichen Beitrag zur Wissenschaftsgeschichte der Bevölkerungsstatistik in den USA und entschlüsselt zugleich dominante Vorstellungen über die Ordnung der US-amerikanischen Gesellschaft in der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The driving idea, in organizing this Symposium on 'Relativity in Celestial Mechanics . and Astrometry' was that, in recent years, the ac curacy of several Astrometric techniques has so much increased that re lativistic effects are no more marginally mentioned in academic presen tations but have become an intrinsic part of the interpretation of all the positional data. Techniques such as V. L. B. I. , space probes, lunar lasers, etc . . . have greatly contributed to reduce the accuracy level to an angular equivalent of a few milliarc-seconds. HIPPARCOS will extend this trend to stellar astrometry and new proposals aim at gaining ano ther one or two orders of magnitude in observing precision. In paral lel, great progress has also been made in the theories of motion of ce lestial bodies and more rigourous treatments within the frame of general relativity become necessary. The definition of reference frames and of various coordinate times become also a major problem in the intercompa rison of observations produced by different methods. This Symposium gave to people using relativistic corrections in reducing their measurements or in constructing various theories of mo tion a chance to exchange their experience in the field and to confront it with theoreticians in general relativity. The Symposium was approved by the IAU in 1983 and it was organi zed by the Institute of Theoretical Astronomy of the USSR Academy of Sciences on May 28-31, 1985.
