Both families had been exiled from Ireland in the aftermath of Tyrone's Rebellion. A second-generation "Wild Goose", he became one of Austria's most capable military leaders in the War of the Austrian Succession and the Seven Years' War. He was mortally wounded in the 1757 Battle of Prague.
